Help from Holy Ghost

A while back, Apostle David challenged us to pray for someone that we wouldn’t normally pray for. I chose my supervisor because she was the most negative person that I had ever met, but I believed that God had placed me in my workplace to impart love to her. I tried many times unsuccessfully until the day that I was to start my new position across the hall in another department. The lady called me into her office and begin to tell me how unappreciative I was and how I should be ashamed for leaving her department. The whole time she was ranting about how bad of a person I was, I was silently praying, not knowing what in the world I was going to say to her when she finished. She paused at one point and I, with a calm voice, looked at her and simply said, “I love you, and no matter what you think of yourself or what you feel that other people think of you, I think you are a great person underneath it all.”  I also let her know that I have enjoyed working with her. She was speechless. After a moment of silence, she looked at me and told me thank you and that she appreciated the kind words.

In the hardest time, I let Holy Ghost guide my words and emotions. Had I not prayed for calmness and words to say, I would have just talked to her and left the same negative impression on her as she leaves on others. Now, if I see her in the hall, she will smile and have something to say. There’s not a huge change in her, but even if no one else can see it, I can.

Thinking back on that day, I still marvel that I contained my tongue. I wanted to jump up and let her know just how negative she was and how much I didn’t appreciate how she talked to me. Our Father only has us to work through, though, and He says, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you (Luke 6:27-28).” Praise the Lord for Holy Ghost, because He helped show her love through me!
