Mark 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything there-on: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves: for the time of fruit was not yet.
The figs were “not yet.” The fig tree is known as the hypocrite tree. The definition of hypocrite is actor, one who wears a mask. The reason the tree is called this is because it will be full of leaves with no fruit ready to eat. The fruit is hidden in the leaves until it becomes ripe. The tree looks good.
It doesn’t matter how holy we may look. Are we sometimes a pretty picture of leaves with no fruit? Do we really help anyone? Christains are to be known by their fruit. When Jesus came to the fig tree, He had a need. People have needs today. Many are spiritually hungry. They are looking for spiritual fruit, not religious nuts! We are to be instant in and out of season. This means we should be ready to help others in their time of need.
The Lord called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? Genesis 3:9
Not only do we hide our “fruit.” We sometimes hide ourselves, so to speak. God knew where Adam was. He was not asking for himself. He was asking for their sake. He wanted Adam and Eve to realize where they were spiritually.
Genesis 3:10 tells us where they were. They were afraid, naked and hiding. Have your ever felt that way? It is time for us to take the masks off. It is time to be real. We need to tell what God has brought us through. Not just when we first got saved, but last week! We can’t help others if we hide behind whatever our personal fig leaves are. We have no need to feel naked, afraid or like hiding.Let’s pray that God will help us turn over that new leaf today.
