Power Outage

~2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

A power outage is a time when power is interrupted or at a complete loss. It can make even the strongest, smartest person feel helpless. Everything seems to either slow down or stop. It is hard to focus on anything else during this time. You are just aware that you have to get the power back on. I began thinking of how much a power outage and depression has in common. Everything around you seems dark and uncertain when you are depressed. You feel helpless. It becomes hard to focus.

There are steps to take during a power outage. You are to report it to the one in charge of restoration. That sounds like great advice to me. When you find yourself becoming depressed, go to God in prayer. He is the only one who can fix the situation you are in. There is another step when you lose power. You are to unplug as many appliances as possible. There are many things that fill our minds. TV, computers, and music sources all overtake our thoughts. We have to unplug our minds from some of them when we are stressed. These things can drain you. Find a quiet place where you can read the Bible.

Get away so you can hear the Lord speak to your heart. This will bring peace. Downed power lines are to be avoided during a power outage. When a person is discouraged or depressed, they should avoid talking to spiritually weak or powerless people. They will only make the situation seem worse. In a natural power loss, it is important to make sure the water used is safe for consumption. Be careful what you entertain yourself with. Let Holy Spirit guide you. Listen to praise music. Remind yourself of the times God had met you in your time of need. Read testimonies of others who have overcome.

There is a danger of carbon monoxide poison when power is lost. The enemy will try to destroy you when you are in a depressed frame of mind. It is important to stay alert. Make yourself aware of his devices. Remember, a dark situation is not permanent. Help is on the way. Morning will break through the darkness. You just have to tap into the right source. Jesus is the light. He has given the power to you. It is within your reach. More power to you!
