Real Church. Real Life. Real Celebration.

The Gated Community

~Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they who keep His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

~Psalms 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.”

My husband and I recently went to N.C to visit. We were looking forward to time with family and friends. This visit would be bittersweet. We couldn’t wait to hug a loved one who is struggling right now with cancer. We would also being seeing two grandchildren who are recovering from a car crash. We were going to be staying with our son. It was late. We were tired by the time we arrived.

Our son lives in a gated community. Inside the gate, everything looked peaceful. The landscaping and lake was beautiful. It looked like the perfect place. But in this beautiful setting, our hearts were still heavy. Our concerns were the same as they had been on the long drive there. I know God is moving in the hard places we are facing. We still hurt. We got settled in and decided to rest for awhile. My mind went to another place and another time. I began reflecting on the ultimate gated community, Heaven. I thought about how it is going to be when I am welcomed inside of those gates. What incredible beauty and peace awaits us there. Our time in this earthly realm is but a moment. It is a vapor compared to eternity. I look forward to that day. We will enter into perfect rest. As wonderful as that time will be, we do not have to wait. We can experience a glimpse of what is to come while right here.

Our family all came together at the home of our suffering loved one. We laid hands on her and joined in prayer. The atmosphere of Heaven filled the room. Before we prayed, we all felt fear and sadness. As we prayed, the peace of God overshadowed us all. The love and presence of God was tangible. Later, as Ricky and I enjoyed dinner with our grandkids and their parents, we felt the same presence as we rejoiced together. We talked about how God had spared them during the wreck. Everyone on the scene and at the hospital were amazed they survived.

You don’t have to wait to find out what it is going to be like inside Heaven’s gate. We can get alone with God. He loves to commune with us. You can experience that surpassing joy that only He can offer. Enter in, into the joys of the Lord. He is standing at the gate. They are open wide.
