At times we think we have let go of certain things, and the truth is we haven’t. We have thoughts, and our mind goes back again and again to certain things that are tied to our past. I know I do not do this intentionally, but it happens. It is very subtle. This happened to me when I wanted to hold on to a memory tied to my past, and I had to examine myself as to why I was feeling this way. At first I got very mad. I thought, “Why is this happening, and why am I feeling this way toward something that is so insignificant?”
You know the story of Lot in the book of Genesis, the angels came and told Lot to hurry, take his family, and get out of the city. “‘Even then Lot lingered, the men took the hands of Lot’s wife and children and brought them out of the city. It came to pass, when they had brought them outside, he said, ‘Escape for your life! Do not look back.'”
Lot said to them, “Please, no my lords. Lot had found favor in their sight. His life was spared, but even then Lot was fearful.” Lot was afraid of dying, but if he stayed, he would die also. So there was only one way left to go and that was to move forward. So, let’s bring it home to us. If we hold on to our past memories we will never move to the place God has for us. It’s decision time again. He always gives us a choice to stay or go on with Him.
In the dictionary, one meaning of contend is to strive in opposition or against difficulties: armies contending for control of strategic territory. In my spirit, I keep hearing the words “it’s time to move, it’s time to move.” No more looking back into our past. No more!
