A few weeks ago two of my grandchildren were in a car wreck. The hospital, EMT’s, and all workers involved with helping them agree that it was a miracle the kids survived. We are still praising God for keeping them. The other night, my husband and I received a late night call. When the caller asked if my husband was there with me, I knew I would not like whatever information came next. If you have ever gotten such a call, you know how I was feeling. If you haven’t, chances are you will someday.
Our son had been driving in heavy rain. His truck had hydroplaned and turned over twice. The caller told us that the ambulance had not yet arrived. Our son was afraid because he was not able to move. Horrible thoughts began running through my mind. Bad emotions were overtaking me. It was hard for me to think clearly. I, too, was afraid. He was over six hours away. I felt helpless to get to him. Of course I wanted to be there for him at that moment. My flesh and spirit began to war inside of me. I know who I am in Christ. I reminded myself that my son too is a child of God. We live in a fallen world. Bad things do happen to good people. We will face pain and challenges.
The good news is that we never have to face them alone. I began to pray in the spirit. The fearful thoughts would try to overtake me again. I continued to pray and trust God. We can’t allow the enemy to torment our minds. He does this to keep us from calling out for our Heavenly Father to take over the situation. There is a choice to make during these times. When the first Adam fell into sin in the garden, he became fearful and ashamed. We have to choose to think like the second Adam, Jesus. We have the mind of Christ. We have been redeemed. Which Adam will we allow to stand up in us when the time comes for us to fight and believe? We are called to be a victor, not a victim. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord. Our son is having surgery in a couple of days. He will be fine. I declare that God will arise. The enemy will be scattered. Christ reigns supreme.
~1st Corinthians 15:45-47 “And so it is written, the first Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural;and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth; The second man is The Lord from Heaven.”
